August 2021

We are pleased to announce we have achieved 100% effort certification compliance for the January – April 2021 period, making it our 15th time since the inception of electronic certification at Pitt! Thank you for all the time and effort you put into ensuring this success!

In accordance with the University’s Effort Reporting/Certification policy, PIs are required to devote some level of effort to all active awards. At a minimum, their effort allocation should reflect the time necessary to oversee all aspects of the work. Any effort recognized in excess of the sponsor budget must be cost shared to an institutional account using the ‘O’ cost share code.

Individual Compensation Plan (ICP) payments in Pitt Worx, formerly Other Supplemental Payroll Payments (OSPP), are intended for payment of compensation to employees for short-term assignments that are over and above the employee’s normal job responsibilities. Payments by ICP are outside of the SPAR application, are not included in effort information downloaded to ECC, and are not certified if on federally sponsored awards.  ICPs should not be charged to entity 05 accounts unless the sponsored agreement specifically allows for consulting-type payments.

There are many new employees across the University or employees with new job responsibilities, which may include working in the SPAR and ECC applications. As a reminder, mandatory training must be completed prior to obtaining access to these applications. More information about these courses is available on our website.
